Bees, with their precious contribution to the ecosystem, offer us much more than just honey. One of their most interesting natural products is propolis, a resinous substance they collect from the buds of certain trees. In the beehive, bees use propolis to seal small spaces and protect their community from external threats such as bacteria and other microorganisms.

Likewise, humans can also benefit from this natural form of protection. Propolis is a resinous and aromatic substance, produced by bees using a mixture of resin, wax, pollen, and honey. Transformed into a 30% alcohol solution, propolis retains these same qualities, becoming a valuable ally in supporting daily well-being. As a food supplement, it offers natural support to help face everyday challenges, promoting internal balance and contributing to general well-being.

Use of propolis

This solution integrates easily into a daily routine: simply dilute it in water or other beverages for simple and convenient intake. With our “Propolis (30%), with alcohol,” you can enjoy the purity and effectiveness of a natural product inspired by the bees’ expert protection techniques.

Examples of application:

• Oral intake: Dilute in a glass of water, tea, or another beverage. Typically, it is recommended to take 20-30 drops once or twice a day, depending on your needs.
• Mouth disinfection, bad breath: Gargle with 10 drops in 1/2 glass of water.
• Insect bites, burns, chapped skin, etc.: Dab or apply a few drops directly onto the affected area.
• Intimate hygiene for women and men: Dissolve 10-15 drops in a liter of warm water.

To improve the taste or enhance the benefits of honey, some people add propolis tincture directly to a teaspoon of honey before consuming it.

Alcoholic propolis is not recommended or is limited during pregnancy and breastfeeding, for children under 3 years of age, and for pets. In such cases, it is preferable to use the alcohol-free solution.

Contraindications

To date, no significant contraindications have been recorded for the use of propolis, except in some cases of hypersensitivity and sensitization in individuals prone to allergies. These reactions are associated with the abundant presence of allergens in the resins of the plants from which the bees collect the resinous substance. Unless specifically indicated in the description, this product does not contain any substances that could cause allergies or other adverse reactions based on Annex 6 of the Ordinance of the FDHA on Food Information (OFI).

Allergies related to bee products

Although scientific evidence is still insufficient to confirm it, recent observations have noted that certain types of honey, particularly local ones, might help alleviate allergy symptoms. Honey itself does not cause allergic reactions, but it can carry triggers such as pollen, bee venom, or fructose. Although statistically rare, allergic reactions to honey consumption do occur in a small portion of the population. The higher the quality of the honey, the less likely it is to trigger allergic reactions.

In case of doubts about the possibility of triggering an allergic reaction with honey, it is advisable to start with a small amount, gradually increasing it in the absence of reactions.

The symptoms of a possible allergy after taking honey occur almost instantly and are: generalized itching, unpleasant sensation in the mouth, sore throat, swelling, abdominal pain, cough, vomiting and diarrhea (nausea), angioedema, asthma.

In the presence of one or more of these symptoms related to the intake of honey, we invite you to immediately stop taking the product and contact your doctor for any anti-histamine therapy.
