Fresh royal jelly is an extraordinary product of the hive, renowned for its nutritional and energizing properties.
This substance is secreted by the hypopharyngeal and mandibular glands of worker bees and serves as the exclusive diet of larvae in their first days of life, as well as being the continuous nourishment of the queen throughout her life.
Thanks to this superfood, the queen bee grows in size and vitality, living for years compared to the few weeks of worker bees.

Organoleptic Characteristics
Appearance
Royal jelly appears in a semi-fluid or gelatinous form, with a thick and creamy consistency that gives it a unique look. The color can range from white to light yellow, depending on its origin. This color variation is due to the composition and quality of the nectar from which the bees gather the substances.
Aroma
The aroma of royal jelly is characteristic and sharp, with a slightly sour note. This sour note comes from the presence of organic acids and volatile compounds, which give royal jelly a distinctive fragrance. The scent can vary depending on the quality and freshness of the product, but it is generally recognizable and unmistakable.
Taste
The taste of royal jelly is tart and sugary, with a slight bitter note that makes it complex. The sweetness is less pronounced than in other bee products, such as honey, contributing to an intense and unique flavor profile. Royal jelly is not particularly sweet, and its taste may be surprising to those who have never tried it. This combination of flavors results from its composition, which includes natural sugars, amino acids, and other nutrients.
Consistency
Royal jelly has a velvety consistency, characterized by a smooth and creamy texture. It melts easily in the mouth, making it pleasant on the palate. Its texture is indicative of its freshness; high-quality royal jelly tends to have a uniform consistency and is free of lumps.
Physicochemical Characteristics
Main Composition
Royal jelly is primarily composed of water (about 60-70%), which gives it a semi-fluid consistency. Proteins, including MRJP (Major Royal Jelly Proteins), make up 12-18%, essential for its nutritional value. It contains sugars (10-16%), such as fructose and glucose, which provide immediate energy. Lipids (3-6%), including unique fatty acids like 10-hydroxydecenoic acid (10-HDA), contribute to its stability. Finally, a wide range of vitamins and minerals in small amounts further enriches the nutritional profile.
Protein Content
Royal jelly is rich in proteins, which account for about 12-18% of its composition. Among these, an important role is played by MRJP (Major Royal Jelly Proteins), specific proteins that contribute to its nutritional and functional properties. MRJP are known to promote the growth and development of bees, and are considered one of the key elements of royal jelly. The presence of these proteins makes royal jelly a concentrated source of essential amino acids, useful for supporting human protein metabolism.
Moisture
The high water content of royal jelly, around 60-70%, is responsible for its characteristic gelatinous and creamy consistency. However, this high percentage of moisture makes royal jelly sensitive to preservation: to maintain its nutritional properties, it is essential to store it properly, preferably at low temperatures and protected from light, to avoid alterations and degradation of its components.
Hydrogen Ion Concentration (pH)
The pH of royal jelly is slightly acidic, usually ranging between 3.5 and 4.5. This acidity is due to the presence of organic acids, including 10-hydroxydecenoic acid (10-HDA), which is one of the main bioactive compounds in royal jelly. This acidic pH helps preserve the quality of the product, making it less prone to microbial growth, provided it is stored correctly.
Solubility
Royal jelly is water-soluble, which facilitates its intake and mixing in beverages or other liquid solutions. This characteristic makes it particularly suitable for combining with other supplements or natural ingredients, allowing for easy preparation of solutions to be consumed as part of a daily routine.

Storage
Storage
Fresh royal jelly in its unopened glass vial can maintain all its beneficial properties if stored in the refrigerator (0-5°C) until the minimum durability date (MDD) indicated on the product. Once opened, it should be stored in the refrigerator (0-5°C) and consumed within 20-30 days. Beyond this period, although it may still be edible, royal jelly loses all its beneficial properties.
Degradation and Effects of Heat
If exposed to temperatures above 25°C, royal jelly can degrade rapidly. Increased temperature can lead to the loss of essential nutrients and alter its organoleptic properties. High temperatures, such as those above 40°C, can damage the proteins and vitamins present in royal jelly, reducing or even nullifying their effectiveness.
Minimum Shelf Life
The product retains all its best quality characteristics for up to 24 months from the production date, provided it is stored as indicated.
Our minimum durability date indicates until when the product maintains its best qualities. Even beyond this date, the product may still be edible, but it is possible that it has lost much of its nutritional characteristics. To check its suitability, use your senses: observe, smell, and taste. If you notice no changes, the product is still good, but we recommend using it by the indicated date to guarantee its benefits.

Warning concerning food supplements
Supplements are food products intended to supplement the common diet and constitute a concentrated source of nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, or of other substances having a nutritional or physiological effect, in particular, but not exclusively, amino acids, fatty acids essentials, fibers and extracts of plant origin, both single and multi-compound, in pre-dosed forms.
Supplements are not intended as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and must be used as part of a healthy lifestyle. Food supplements are not medicinal and, as such, cannot exert a pharmacological, immunological or metabolic action. For this reason, their use is not intended to treat or prevent diseases in humans or to modify their physiological functions. Any indication reported to this effect in the product description is intended solely as a therapeutic support and does not replace in any form the therapy prescribed by the doctor.
Do not exceed the recommended dose.
The product should be kept out of the reach of children under three years of age.
Allergy Info
Unless specifically indicated in the description, this product does not contain any substances that could cause allergies or other adverse reactions based on Annex 6 of the Ordinance of the FDHA on Food Information (OFI).
Allergies related to bee products
Although scientific evidence is still insufficient to confirm it, recent observations have noted that certain types of honey, particularly local ones, might help alleviate allergy symptoms. Honey itself does not cause allergic reactions, but it can carry triggers such as pollen, bee venom, or fructose. Although statistically rare, allergic reactions to honey consumption do occur in a small portion of the population. The higher the quality of the honey, the less likely it is to trigger allergic reactions.
In case of doubts about the possibility of triggering an allergic reaction with honey, it is advisable to start with a small amount, gradually increasing it in the absence of reactions.
The symptoms of a possible allergy after taking honey occur almost instantly and are: generalized itching, unpleasant sensation in the mouth, sore throat, swelling, abdominal pain, cough, vomiting and diarrhea (nausea), angioedema, asthma.
In the presence of one or more of these symptoms related to the intake of honey, we invite you to immediately stop taking the product and contact your doctor for any anti-histamine therapy.

Diabetes Info
Honey is very similar to sugar in quantity of simple sugars, calories and glycemic index. This similarity makes it difficult to control blood sugar in a similar way to white sugar. Compared to the sucrose of cooking sugar, honey brings a greater variety of sugars such as maltose, sucrose, glucose, fructose and dextrose together with vitamins and minerals. The latter are very useful substances for the person's organism.
All in all honey is preferable to sugar. It consists mainly of fructose, which has a higher sweetening power. This allows to obtain the same degree of sweetness with a smaller quantity of sweetener. This is a significant advantage for those who suffer from diabetes and have to deal with blood sugar.
For the diabetic, honey is a food to be used in moderation by calculating the overall glycemic load of the meal in which it is taken. Compared to sugar that has a glycemic index of 61, that of honey is 55. Before consuming it, it is advisable to correctly calculate your glycemic load (ingestible quantity). Although lower than that of sugar, the glycemic index of honey is all in all still quite high. For this reason, it is recommended to add it very sparingly in the diet of someone who is diabetic.
In conclusion, both honey and sugar have a high glycemic index. This means that neither is suitable for habitual consumption by those with diabetes. Honey can be consumed within certain limits by a diabetic, but always and in any case occasionally.
